Where tradition meets modern life in a hanok cafe

The Story of Chaehyangdang

"The care put into a single cup of tea is what touches the hearts of our guests."

In Bukchon, Seoul, past the narrow alleyways, a century-old hanok stands quietly, holding a hundred years of history within its walls. When I first encountered this aging and weathered hanok, I envisioned a place where people could share a moment of peace over a cup of tea.

In 2019, a long journey began to preserve the beautiful framework of this traditional hanok while reimagining the space for modern sensibilities. We devoted our care to restoring every rafter of the daecheongmaru and every stone in the courtyard, and finally opened Chaehyangdang's doors in 2020.

Chaehyangdang (彩香堂) means "a house where colors and fragrances linger." With the courtyard scenery that changes with each season, the subtle aroma of carefully brewed traditional teas, and the warm charm of the hanok, you can experience a moment where time slows down.

Upon the stories this century-old hanok has held, Chaehyangdang is writing a new chapter in tea culture. While cherishing the value of tradition and adding a modern touch, we aspire to be a space where anyone can comfortably enjoy Korean tea culture.
